Coconut Oil 3 Ways!
I stumbled upon this idea when I used to use Lush's Shower Smoothies; decadent little tubs of oils and scents whipped into yummy, mild, moisturizing soaps. The downside was the price ( anywhere from $25 to almost $50!) and so I decided to put my DIY brain to work and do some research on better ways to deeply moisturize in the shower without breaking the bank.
There were so many variations online that I decided to stick to ingredients I already had in my cupboard: Coconut Oil, Vitamin E oil, and essential oils for fragrance. I even use tea’s for dried flowers to float…. Simply melt down the oil, add the latter two ingredients, pour into molds (ice cube trays, candy trays, or my favorite, silicone trays) for any liquid, and refrigerate until hardened. Store in a cool, dry place, out of sunlight. Once ready, take in the shower, massage into skin after exfoliating, and rinse off at the end.
You can really apply the body bar at the end of your shower to avoid any contact with hair; simply turn the water off, rub into skin, rinse off afterwards and you're good to go. For a deeper effect, apply towards the start of your shower, and be mindful of hair contact. It's up to you!
Other ways you can use your coconut oil mixture is as bath melts and for massage. For the bath, simply hold a cube under the running water, and the oils with melt into your tub. As you bathe, rub the little bubbles of oil into your skin for a natural, and convenient way to moisturize while soaking. Or simply use a cube for massage and essential oil bliss.
